The 2010 Encyclopædia Britannica consists of 32 volumes: the 12-volume Micropædia, or Ready Reference, totaling 12,000 pages and 24 plates; the 17-volume Macropædia, or Knowledge in Depth, totaling 17,364 pages and 224 plates; the one-volume Propædia, or Outline of Knowledge; and the two-volume Index.
The Macropædia contains some 700 articles, averaging nearly 25 pages (or 35,000 words) in length but ranging from 2 to more than 300 pages. The Micropædia contains roughly 64,400 articles, the articles averaging about 300 words in length. All Macropædia articles and about 2,000 Micropædia articles feature bibliographies for further reading; all Macropædia articles and about 1,350 Micropædia articles are signed.
